French Lace-Up Corset: What a fabulous black satin
lace-up corset - this has to be the 'star of the site'! This
wonderful garment comes to you from Le Compressif and
is constructed with 8 vertical bones. The center front panel
has a great 'Art Deco' look with many small bones coming in
at angles, center front, and at different lengths across the top edge. The
bottom front does have an elasticized 'vee' panel providing
ease in movement & sitting, which is composed of 3 rows of elastics. This corset is 'pre-laced' for
you and the laces are attached to straps at the waist and hip
levels which have multiple eyes that fit over studs attached
to the boning, so you can tighten it to your taste. This item
appears to be from the forties, or very early fifties - and for
an item of that age it is in remarkably fine condition. The
hooks (mentioned above) certainly have some corrosion, but this
in no way affects the wearability, nor the appearance as, in
wear, the satin straps cover the hooks. The
intricate design of this garment has to have been completely
hand-finished and is a real tribute to the corsetiere's craft.
You'll certainly not find a piece with such fine detailing like
this being made today. This
lovely corset closes at left front with 12 hook-eye clasps.
On the inside you will find stamped wording with the name of
the company and a listing of patent numbers - also the size
is listed (please see detailed picture above).
These garments are
in excellent vintage condition especially when you think about the fact
that they have spent 50-60 years in a now defunct French lingerie
shop's store room! This is your opportunity to own an exceptionally gorgeous
example of lingerie history!
We have 3 of these garments - one with garters, which are metal & rubber attached to black 1" elastic straps and are adjustable. The other 2 garments have tabs where garters would be - the garters were NOT removed - it appears this is the way the garments were made. Our model wore the garter-less garment.
Sizing: The gartered garment and one of the non-gartered garments are marked as size 60. The second non-gartered garment is marked as size 62.
All measurements are with garment laid flat and unstretched. Smaller size is with lacing straps at tightest setting and larger measurement is with the straps at the loosest eyelet. All measurements are approximate.
